Join us for a private tour with Gio Swaby.

On Thursday, April 13th at 3 pm, The Black Art Experience will be hosting a private tour of the Art Institute of Chicago’s latest exhibition Gio Swaby: Fresh Up with the artist herself. The exhibition documents Swaby’s multidisciplinary practice, which is grounded at the intersection of Blackness and womanhood. Swaby’s portraits are emotional, embroidered, and embedded with the expressiveness of Black women. For more on the show see here.

Gio Swaby is a Bahamian interdisciplinary visual artist currently represented by Claire Oliver Gallery. She is known for her textile portraits that explore and celebrate Blackness.

Join us for a studio visit with Lindsay Adams and Satchel Lee.

Lindsay Adams is an artist currently living and working in Chicago, IL. She is a graduate student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and holds a B.A. in International Studies: World Politics and Diplomacy and Spanish from The University of Richmond.

Satchel Lee holds a BFA from the Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She is currently pursuing her MFA in Photography at School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Brunch + Artist Talk

Join Kavi Gupta gallery and Kendra Walker for a mimosa brunch and conversation with artists Allana Clarke, Esmaa Mohamoud and Gallery Director Chanelle Lacy as a part of Walker's Black Art Experience. Panelists will discuss the solo exhibitions on view at the gallery, as well as what it means to take up space as a Black woman in the arts.
